Caronte & Tourist offers regular ferry crossings between the Italian mainland and Sicily, between the ports of Salerno and Messina.
Carrying out private ferry services since 1965, the company established the Salerno-Messina route in 2001 to adhere to the newly introduced laws limiting the amount of driving time allowed for commercial vehicle drivers. This route is operated by two vessels named Cartour Beta and Cartour Gamma, cruising at speeds of 25 knots, carrying up to 800 cars, 150 trucks and approximately 1,000 passengers. Aboard these ferries are children’s play areas, shops, a restaurant and excellent cabins, ideal for the 9 hour crossing.
Caronte & Tourist has always placed great emphasis on the efficiency of their operations and the speed of their services, resulting in a passenger experience that is second to none in their sector. Moreover, the Messina Strait is among the most beautiful places in the world; the view of the Sicilian and Calabrian coasts, which almost touch, is a sight not to be missed for those on-board.
