"Great way to get to Oslo"
On a short trip to Scandinavia, and looking to maximize our time, we opted to travel to Oslo via DFDS Seaways on the Crown Seaways. As semi-experienced cruisers (Caribbean, Tahiti, twice on the Nile, and 18 months on a Navy ship), it was an interesting experience.
The ship was clean, and well maintained. While not as opulent as a typical cruise ship, it was still nicely appointed. We appreciated the "pay as you go" style of purchases, and no big bill to clean up upon departure.
We had an outside room on the 5th deck. For a family of 3 it was cramped, but livable. I am not sure I'd want to do a 10 day or transatlantic in a room like that though. The teens congregating
While it advertised a "kids club" with a program of activities, it was in actuality less structured than we expected, consisting of a couple of staff dressed in pirate garb making balloon animals and doing face-painting. Our little girl enjoyed the play area, and the plethora of Legos around the ship.
The food was excellent, though a bit expensive. We ate in the Buffet both meals; excellent variety, though if you get there 30 minutes before arrival, it is pretty picked over.
Overall, it was a great way to travel. We enjoyed the feeling of a mini-cruise, and have already recommended it to friends thinking of traveling Scandinavia.
