The 7 Seas Buffet serves over 80 dishes each night while the Blue Riband restaurant offers delicious à la carte dining options in a relaxed and contemporary atmosphere. A trip to the Explorer's Steakhouse for a steak cooked just how you like it by the expert chefs.

Enjoy a coffee or freshly baked delicacy in the relaxed, modern surroundings of the Bake n’ Coffee Café and the Latitude Café. The relaxed atmosphere of the Cafés is perfect in which to enjoy your favourite hot drink or a light meal.

If you fancy a drink onboard then you’ll be pleased to know that there are numerous venues to choose from. If it’s a comfortable setting and pleasant atmosphere that you’re after then head to the Navigators Bar which serves an excellent selection of drinks and quality beers with live music in the evening.

The Compass Bar located close to the restaurants is a lounge bar that’s ideal place if you want to relax and enjoy yourself in comfortable surroundings. Pleasant background music is played, and the bar serves an excellent range of wine, beer, cocktails and spirits.

If you like music, sports, a few drinks and a friendly atmosphere, the Sports Bar is the place to be or for great views, the top-deck Neptune Sky Bar is a superb place to begin your journey with friends or family, as your ship sails out of port. Enjoy the maritime atmosphere with a beer or long drink in your hand.

Onboard Shopping

Shopping at sea is one of the great pleasures of travelling onboard the King Seaways. The Sea Shop features a range of alcohol, chocolate, perfume, cosmetics, toys and fashion wear.

Additional Onboard Facilities

Watch the latest blockbusters in the onboard cinema, enjoy a flutter or two in the casino and try your luck at blackjack or on theroulette wheel. There’s also a Wildlife Watching Experience where you can learn about the wildlife of the North Sea as you sail across it. Led by the leading wildlife charity ORCA, the wildlife experience is fun for both kids and adults.

Travelling with Children

The ‘Kidz' Club is a safe and enjoyable play area for children. With a range of activities available, children will be entertained for hours when sailing on the King Seaways.

For older children there's a games room with video games, and a cinema too.

Accessibility

The King Seaways is wheel chair friendly with lifts to all decks (except deck 5). There's also a choice of specially adapted disabled cabins including 4 Outside (sea view) and 2 inside. Special arrangements cannot be made on the day you travel for requirements that are not requested beforehand so if you have have any special requests then please notify us before booking.

"Good and some potential"

Good voyage despite a bit of a rough sea on the way back. I would have liked only a soup in the evening, but that was not possible, only a full dinner. Also there was not the chance to only get an uncooked breakfast with different breads, only a cooked breakfast or only croissants and muffins. The full breakfast was quite a steep price. Still I liked the voyage and would do it again.

"NEVER use DFDS Ferries "

I travel often to and from both the UK and Ireland to the Continent. I just took a DFDS Ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam. This Ferry company engages in Fraud and Misrepresentation. I am, by profession, a Barrister. So, I well know the legal concepts of Fraud and Misrepresentation. I specifically requested that I pay for a plate of chips "French Fries". I was charged Euro 32. For a late of French Fries. When I tried to explain this to a uniformed ship officer, he was arrogant and adversarial. He told me I winever receive a credit for this over charge. I will take DFDS Ferries to court. I strongly recommend that you choose any other Ferry company to travel to or from the UK and the Continent.

Comfortable bed. Either 3 course meal or buffet but nothing in between, not ideal for a family of 4. Not enough seating away from cafe/restaurants where you have to buy food/drinks. Cabin bathroom was tiny and not terribly clean.

"Our Experience "

Tired when we boarded we headed to our cabin. The carpet under one of the beds hadn’t been vacuumed, crisps still there from previous occupant. Noisy from next door, you can hear every word. My partner had several bites on right wrist, elbows and neck. Maybe from flea bites? Anyway we reported it and staff were very pleads. We don’t eat breakfast, so declined the complimentary breakfast offered. We will come back as we are heading back to Europe in the summer f so I hoping for a better room next time.

"First timer "

Loved every minute of my trip to holland and back and will be booking again next year. First off the punctuality of the staff to border control right down to staff on the boat was First class. The only thing I would complain about was the cost of the food at dinner time. Not so much the 40+ pounds per person that it costs but to charge over 3+ 20 pound to eat is a bit ridiculous in my opinion. Had the breakfast tho and the variety is excellent. But sort the cost of the meals as for the 4 of us it would've cost over 150 pound.

"Excellent from start to finish"

So much nicer and more environmentally friendly than flying! Lovely cabin, hot shower, comfortable bed and I was even upgraded to an outside cabin. The staff were super-friendly, the breakfast was excellent and travelling with my bike was stress-free. I'll be travelling with DFDS again!

Well I didnt travel on the ferry as Iwas invited to Wembley ti be presented with my England Cap Id waited 50 yrs for! I tried to change dates but they wanted over £300 and I couldnt cancel either so list over £400 because I wanted to attend this once in a lifetime event. They werent interested. I wont be booking my delayed trip through either if these companies

"Fab facilities"

The facilities were fab and the staff were nice. Economy class on the return journey was a bit rough. We were warned noise may occur, but didn’t realise quite how much as we were out in a corridor with very rowdy school trip kids so probably wouldn’t travel economy again. Getting into ijmuiden port was brilliant and super quick, but getting off the ship in England was very very slow and we are unsure why as they weren’t doing searches. We got off the ship/through passport control 90 minutes after expected

All in all, much enjoyed my crossing to Newcastle with you. However (!), I was for quite awhile locked out of my cabin, which really should never have happened. It was eventually sorted out, and it gave me the chance to talk with one of your helpful staff, but it did rather detract from the overall experience. "Getting to Ijmuiden"

You really need to improve your facilities and systems for transporting foot passengers to Ijmuiden from central Amsterdam. It is not acceptable to have people queuing by the side of the road for a coach, in what is in effect a building site, with no shelter from the elements. You need to lease a reception centre. In terms of the system, you had not properly calculated the number of foot passengers and hence the number of coast seats you would require. The driver of the one coach who turned up at the appropriate time seemed to be phoning frantically to organise more coaches to come because he could see he could not carry all the passengers queuing. In fact we had to wait, standing for over one hour until two more coaches arrived to transport us. In the meantime we had the worry that the ship would sail without us. There was no DFDS representative there to inform us what was happening; we only found out what was happening by phoning direct or direct messaging you on Twitter.

"A disapointing experience"

The crossingsand almost everything to do with them were good. They were on time, the accommodation was comfortable the food was excellent however on the way home we made a small purchase in the shop. The first attempt to pay was successful as far as the card reader was concerned but not on the terminal of the assistant. Cutting a long story short we had four attempts to make the payment and subsequently discovered that we were charged twice. Trying to get redress in the shop was hard and took over an hour when we were offered a refund on our card. There was no apology what so ever. The refund arrived back on our card some 5 days afterwards. As I said very disapointing.

"Better management of pets is required"

Many people doing a trip like this on a boat, do it to be able to bring their pets. Therefore I expected the handling of pets to be much more organised as well as friendly (for the pets and the owners). The cabins accepting pets are too few, when you could use normal cabins and simply clean them better afterwards (you do charge 40EUR for extra cleaning after all!). As well the pet area for toilet and paws stretching is utterly disgusting. Either you organise it better, extend it or just clean it more often as the smell was unbearable. The food at the dinner buffet was not great and way too expensive for the quality. The breakfast was much better, food and price-wise. The cabin was good, clean and comfortable.

"Over night on a ferry"

Our first experience on an over night ferry and we enjoyed it. It was fun in its own way, as it is different to the Tunnel of course. We found it actually quite restful, enjoyed the meals, experiencing both the Buffet and the A la carte - recommend the a la carte as a more pleasant meal experience. We had a window cabin, marked for the disabled, which we are not, but it was very comfortable and spacious, with a good warm shower. The queues to get off the ferry were not so pleasant- took ages to get off and on our way.....were

"Great Voyage."

First time I've travelled this way on an overnight ferry. Absolutely loved it, we were over for a football match. It helps when the weather was so nice I suppose, so we spent the first part of our journey on the the deck. Having a few beers in the sun. Later on we ended up in the night club lounge where there was live music and a DJ. Food was good also, we tried the buffet on our journey back. The cabins were clean and had comfortable beds, and the ship throughout was clean , with all staff and crew very friendly. We travelled on Wednesday evening and came back from Amsterdam Friday evening arriving back in Newcastle on the Saturday morning. We booked pretty late so prices were more expensive than would have been if booked well in advance. So plenty of good deals. Definitely using DFDS again and another short break back to the Netherlands.

Trip itself was perfectly fine however staff members were "rude/ unpolite" without simple "hello, thanks, yourwelcome" I'm more concerned regards taking orders and working there in general. Some customers service training might help the issue resolve. Otherwise ship was clean, organised, punctual. Amazing bonus as live music! Excellent! Thanks for experience!

"accommodation standard"

Since 15 years I am traveling with my family of 4 on the King Seaways several times a year. This is the first time we were allocated our cabin right in the bottom of the ship on deck 2 ( cabin 272 and returning 262). Our car was parked on higher decks( 6 and returning on deck 4). Especially cabin 272 was showing signs of neglect. The plughole int he sink was very rusty and the shower was rusty too. There was a big rusty patch above the sink. We did not feel comfortable to have a shower or let alone a wash. We acknowledge maintaining a big ship like the King Seaways is not easy but considering that we paid over £1,000 for a return ticket I think we should have been offered another cabin, especially on our return trip on the 9th August where the ship was not fully booked. When I enquired about changing the cabin I was told by your customer service staff at the information desk that this is only possiblse if I upgrade for a fee of Euro 50. Taking Covid and fuel price increase into consideration I think the value for money we received was very poor. For £1000 I would expect at least an up to date, well maintained cabin that is not below the car deck.I would also expect to be offered a change of cabin free of charge especially when the ship was not fully booked, which was the case on our retrun trip to the UK. Not a good experience fo me and my family

This was our first trip by ferry and we enjoyed it very much. however the facilities for dogs is very limited. there is an outdoor exercise area which is basic but clean and good enough. Pet friendly cabins which are ideal are few on each boat and booked out very quickly. the Dog Hotel is a small hot room where the dog crates are stcked on top of each other - quite awful. or the dogs can be left in the car for short trips but the car was much too hot on our sailing.

"Smooth crossing, but extremely annoying border control"

Check-in, boarding and the actual crossing were without any problems. It should be noted that there was no option to get something small for dinner on board - the choice was between a buffett dinner (25 EUR) and a two- or three-course menu (25/35 EUR). A very unpleasant experience was disembarkment and the following border control in Amsterdam, which took more than 75 minutes! Neither the DFDS staff on board, nor the ferryport staff nor the border control police were able to organize this in a smooth, fair and efficient way. There were just four border control lanes, and vehicles were distributed arbitrarily by staff, resulting in unequal and in part very long waiting times.

Travelled to Amsterdam from Newcastle booked everything online and paid in advance. Seamless check in and boarding booked inner cabin with bunk nt the best idea at 70, a le carte restaurant excellent return trip upgraded to Commodore class free Wifi, free minibar &double bed. Disaster stuck at Restaurant Wrong meal served fish instead of Guinea Fowl sent it back waited for correct serving which arrived with partially frozen potato crochets sent it back by this time i had finished my meal ,partner still waiting and going off notion of food .and had finished the wine. we could not refuse payment as we had paid in advance and as it was through DFDF own booking agent we could not get a refund either. After complaining to Manager.we were given vouchers to the value of the prebooked meal 70 Euros and not charged for wine so ended well but diappointing last meal of a wonderful holiday.

Horrendous staff and speaking clear English would have been an advantage. Booked a table to eat for 7.30pm arrived to be told the table has gone as they move the time forward leaving the port ! can't say much. I travel on this route for decades. Cabins are a bit small but I buy economy, no surprise. Disembarcation can be lengthy but it is a big ferry and Brexit doesn't help. Used to have food but not any more, too late for me. Pleasant crossing. Thankfully anouncements in the cabin are nowadays kept to the minimum.

Outward journey was absolutely fine, due to COVID restrictions, all the facilities onboard were closed but wifi was free which was great and breakfast was take away style and more than enough. Return journey, staff at Newcastle were insistent that I do a COVID test for GBP 75 (!), but nowhere in the email did it mention that; it only reminded me to wear a mask. I never received any SMS or text reminding me of boarding times, which I had received on the outward journey. As a Swiss citizen in transit, even if coming into Holland from the UK, the information I had, stated that a COVID test was not needed...If I had known about the test, I could have done one much cheaper at home before leaving and would not have taken a 4-hour journey! When I got to Amsterdam, the staff there only wanted to see my vaccination certificate and passport and said the test was not necessary! WOULD DFDS CARE TO REIMBURSE ME GBP 75??? Once onboard everything was fine, all the facilities are open again, but as a risk category passenger, I was happy to stay in my cabin and also requested the breakfast to take away, which I got, again it was plenty! Decent crossings in both directions, very comfortable beds and peaceful. Thanks!

"Unfortunate circumstances"

We used DFDS to visit family for Christmas, and though our outbound trip was lovely (only thing we didn't like was the coffee with the breakfast, everything else was great), on the way back there was an annoying rattling sound outside our cabin window (something got loose and was flapping in the wind loudly) so we slept very poorly. Because of lockdown we had to collect our breakfast to eat in our cabin, which couldn't be helped, but there was some miscommunication about our dietary requirements and some of the food had started going mouldy, which put us off quite a bit. Overall the trip was still great, and most of the staff were super helpful and friendly!

yes I was due to travell back to the UK from my trip to Germany on the 7th April, 10 days before this I had a text message to say all sailing from Amsterdam to Newcastle where cancelled till at least the 13th April, I tried to contact your office by mail as you had informed Direct ferries had closed all phone lines, as I was trying to contact your office on the morning of departure to get some kind of update as there was no news since your last text to me, only to have a message on your web site to Phone your office, guess what, phones shut down, so no comunication with your company and I am now left stranded in Germany with no way of getting back to the UK,Thats what I call Direct F**king Ferries service, in this time of world wide crises what more do we expect, in future if I can't book direct with DFDS then I will not be booking.

I think its criminal that you charge for wifi even in public areas. Also you say that the price of your cinema tickets is a good deal but its actually cheaper to go to the cinema on land! I also think that you should have a more general store where you can buy cheaper snacks like sandwiches and crisps and maybe a magazine rather than the expensive sea shop - something like a WHSmiths for example.

Received in Scotland message on mobile not to forget my leaving time which is 5pm from Newcastle Thankfully I was just on time as the ship sailed just after 4pm Therefor the 5pm must have been CET continental time. Am I mistaken? I miss the Zeebrugge ferry from Belgium to Rosyth Scotland; which was ideal and less driving by car time to Aberdeen...2hrs Dover to Aberdeen 13hrs driving with breaks; Hull is 9 hrs and Newcastle is 5/6 hrs The cabin for us was neat; slept well and good shower and the breakfast was delicious especially the mushrooms...I and friend had a feast and then played the piano, but was told to stop by the "maitre de" and quite right too....what a clanking So the big question is when will there be a ferry between Zeebrugge and Rosyth....I want to sail under the Forth Road and Railway Bridges while having breakfast

"Somewhat noisy experience"

Based on the lower deck we ended up near to the engine room. Even after being moved from an adjacent room to one a few metres away there was no escaping what sounded like industrial work (grinding etc.) being undertaken. With a couple of kids this meant we couldn't really stay in the room (from the point of setting off until about 8pm and then ass soon as the kids woke around 7-8am). Another thing I've noticed using this service over the last few years is that the staff are less and less jovial (or even polite) with the kids. I recall there used to be a lot of interaction and the kids had a great time with the 'pirates'; lately I've noticed there's not even any verbal interaction when the kids have their face painted - even to the point that the pirate came in all dressed up - walked in and promptly walked back out of the kids play area - made for a dismal appreatance in all!

"VERY VERY POOR"

On our outward journey we asked to be moved to a quitter cabin which we had to pay 50 Euros for. We did not realise it was next to and external door which was used frequently by drunken smokers throughout the night resulting in very little sleep. When we complained in the morning we were told DFDS would not refund my upgrade fee BUT they would make our return journey more comfortable. When we arrived on the ship for our return journey we had been upgraded. However we were directly across from the elevators and the second cabin away from the stairway. Once we were in bed again constant noise from the constant stream of drunken traffic kept us awake. I again complained and was told they had no free cabins tome us to. Again they said they would not refund anything. On both occasions we left the ferry to take on a 3 hour drive in a tired and uncomfortable state. I would NOT RECOMMEND anyone travel with DFDS!!! Overpriced and very poor quality.

"OK trip but nasty noise from the bow"

Travelled north on Monday 9th Dec. Strong headwinds so boat was bucking into the swell. Every five minutes or so there was a big metallic bang up the sharp end. This reminded me of the Estonia Disaster which also started with a big bang. I have to assume that the ship's officers were happy that there was no risk however many passengers were alarmed. I overheard some expressing great relief at getting off 'that boat' while waiting for passport control. (I also use email arrancomrades@hotmail.com)

staff pleasant, nice trip heading out to Amsterdam, buffet good selection of food although herbal teas would have been appreciated. Unfortunately the table we had for dinner was looking towards the door and the toilets. on return journey we were allowed to board ship as soon as we checked in which was great, unlike when we headed out from Newcastle . The weather was a bit rough so unfortunately my wife was unable to eat, one dry bread roll, but as we had prepaid our meals in advance there is no refund.! plus £6 for a large bottle of water ! The breakfast was not well organised, we came down at 6am to discover it was 7.30am on Sunday, lots of people starting to gather, then when the doors open for breakfast everyone trying to get a table and join queues for various foods, it wasn't enjoyable. plates and cutlery open for all hands touching concerned me due to hygiene, as not all people wash their hands, I saw someone put up a plate rub it, put it back and pick up another one. On disembarking, it was very unclear as to what was happening, we were all standing waiting and a few frosty members of crew not saying what was happening. then a French tour , rather a large number in a holding area, are moved to the front and we all have to move out of the way, having been standing for quite some time. Quite amazed at lack of security checking on baggage etc. The tannoy announcements were very difficult to hear.

"Overnight sailing with DFDS Seaways"

I have not traveled on DFDS Seaways before but after this trip I would not travel again with this company. Considering how long the journey is, 15 hours overnight, the cabins are very cramped to the extent the toilet door could not fully open without hitting the edge of the top bunk when open. there is no room to move around once the bunks are down and It was so noisy from the engines below that anything that could vibrate in the cabin, did! I had very little sleep. The catering was very poor, travelling with young children i was expecting a child friendly cafe as on other ferries but there were only two restaurants on board, both with a set charge of 30 euros a head for adults and about 17 euros for children and not really the sort of menu suitable for young children. Even a cup of tea was £3.20! I have travelled on many different ferry companies and I am afraid this was the worst, even on a crossing to the Isle of Man there are tea making facilities in the cabins.

Staff were polite and friendly; entertainment was fun; cabin was clean and comfortable, as was the ship generally. Fellow passengers a nice mix of UK/ European / families/ hen parties / groups /singles. We traveled out on the Hull to Rotterdam route, we much preferred our journey back to the UK despite it being a longer route because the ship was bigger and more fun. There was a bus waiting when we got off the ferry that took us straight to Newcastle train station.

Our camper van was parked on deck 3. We had to climb up to deck 7 and find the staircase down to deck 5 cabin 573 which was almost at the end of a very long corridor. On the point of collapse both my hubby and I were totally exhausted and even feared for our survival. What I ask is when booking the journey is it within the realms of possibility to make The embarkation safer and even more comfortable for us passengers. I must add that we are pensioners who have been frequent passengers for approx 55years and don’t want to be stopped by the painful access experiences.

As I booked a journey from Imudijn to Newcastle through Direct Ferries on line whilst camping in Europe. All was well until I came to the insurance page. I found I couldn't move passed it and tried for some time without success. I eventually decided to purchase the insurance even tho I didn't want it as I had already travel insurance covering everything I required whilst travelling. Surprisingly, or not, I was able to continue the purchase of the fare with DFDS. Of course the price shot up to over £300. I was not happy and attempted to contact direct ferries but the number was said to be null and void. I want to know why the purchase couldn't be completed until I had bought unneeded insurance..

And it was similar in the bar in the evening, just too too expensive!!! My actual problem is with Direct Ferries!! I had to call to change my crossing for personal reasons and it was very difficult and stressful!!! It took more than 1 hour for them to answer and then l was put on hold for 20 minutes!! I then asked to change explaining my problem and they said no problem but wanted me to pay a further 600 €! Ridiculous as l had already paid more than 1000€ l understand l need to pay a charge but 600!!! I eventually agreed to go 1 week later for a charge od 200€ but my children lost a weeks holiday with their grand parents!! So indeed l will probably not use Direct Ferries next time as they were neither understanding nor kind!!!

The trip from Newcastle to Amsterdam was a bit under 300 pounds with a car and included a night in the cabin - a completely reasonable price. The crew was friendly and answered any questions promptly. We were honestly a bit let down by the quality of the buffet - for about €25 we expected great food, but got pretty average instead. However, the atmosphere in the bar was relaxing, the ship was clean, and everything went according to plan - you even had a few movies to pick between at the cinema. All in all, I can recommend DFDS.

The standard cabin was really comfortable and there was a lot of interesting things to do on board. The only not so good thing I have to say is the fact that there is a charge for WiFi and its not cheap. Recommend having stuff downloaded on your device before you travel. Also there is no signal on board and the charge for calls is around £1.5 per minute (I am with tesco mobile). Overall a very nice and comfortable experience, good value for money and very friendly and helpful staff.

We slept in a cabin where we very easily could hear noise from neighbour cabins - both talk, and sadly also snorring throughout the whole night. Booked this ferry as I needed to drive up to Scotland from Belgium, it was a very basic ferry having done the Harwich to Hook of Holland and the Dover to Dunkirk crossing I expected more. The crossing in general wasn't too bad. The fact that the cafe no longer serves hot food meaning you need to either eat in the buffet restaurant or the "a la cart" which is in name only as you must order a minimum of two courses, this was very disappointing. The worst part though was probably the fact that only 4 lines were open for passport control and that is why I am currently sat in the queue writing this review an hour after the ship arrived still in no sight of even being in a queue never mind getting to the front of it.

"Third Rate Travel - Cattle would be treated better."

Let me outline the booking and consequences: I booked a 4 berth cabin each way (plus a space for a five month old baby). I inadvertently ticked the "wheelchair user " box mistaking this for a general disability ( I have arthritis of the spine). The outward cabin approx. ten feet square with bunk beds either side, had a toilet within the shower and absolutely nowhere to put a pram (or a wheelchair, had I had one !): it was situated on Deck 5 with no lift access (think wheelchair !) On arrival, as we had to load the pram and accompanying "on board" baggage and the lifts (TWO IN TOTAL) were constantly in use, we were last to leave the car deck and harassed by staff constantly trying to hurry us up. To facilitate more room my daughter booked (and paid 50 euros) for a second room two floors above (but with lift access) - this room was presumably available to us all along ? The return journey was slightly worse ! We were allocated a cabin on Deck 2, three decks below the cars and below the actual water level (I repeat, wheelchair user, baby ??) The room stank of urine and my wife complained - we were sent a cleaner who replaced the smell of urine with one of disinfectant and bleach ! My daughter was not prepared to subject her infant daughter to this smell and asked to be relocated, which she was at at a further cost of 55 euros - again remarkably on Deck 7 (the floor of complainants ?) ! Prices were stated to be in euros on all notices, but if you paid in sterling the exchange rate was deemed to be 1:1 ! Breakfast was £15 and an evening meal £35. Tea and coffee were approximately £4 per cup and Croissants in excess of £2. Not a cheap crossing. Entertainment was OK, but no more and there was very little to do on board. Cabins were too small to relax in and the eating of food purchased ashore, prohibited in all areas bar cabins !

Thankyou the allocation of rooms and men rhat work to load our cars were very effcient. I do wish there weren't such a wait for the lifts for my husband's arthritic legs but I'm happy there were lifts. I was so seasick though and would suggest to other seasick people to ask for a suite in the centre of the ship but the sheets doona and pillow were very clean, as was the ensuite. Sorry we didn't leave it very clean. The shower was amazing Thanks everyone x We did not eat on-board but Starbucks was great

Catering was superb. Staff experienced and helpful. Cabin adequate. Being a 15hr ferry crossing overnight, all started very well until out to sea and then the whole of the ship literally rattled all the way across, making sleeping impossible. Expected the engine noise, but the curtain rails, doors, windows, walkway, ceilings all rattling, on our deck and other decks when a walk was taken due to the noises, made the whole crossing a poor experience.

We have done a fair amount of ferry journeys this summer with various operators but all left our trip to Amsterdam and back well in the shade for a raft of reasons. I think the little things make a big difference overall and DFDS need to take a little look at themselves. Just for starters I think the lack of adequate signage on each stairwell would make a good start. Why the secrecy of what is on offer on each floor! I’m also not a fan of showering leaning ‘over’ the toilet. But my biggest gripe is waking up to find my 10 year old son covered in bites. Princess Seaways level 2 2017 is one to avoid. The most scary though is when we reported it this morning with the Business Leader. She was lovely but totally ‘unsurprised’ of our plight last night. All in all I personally will choose a different operator when I have the choice.

Just had 6 weeks in France using this ferry both ways, cannot fault the service we had and would certainly recommend this ferry to others. The only downside we had was the buffet meal. Being older we do not want a multi course meal , just a single plate of food so to pay £50 plus for the two of us is not an option. Just wish there was a simple cafe where we can buy a simple meal at a sensible cost. Other than that , great and we will use this ferry again soon.

I found the meal prices rather high. In the afternoon, the cafe had nothing savory, no sandwiches, etc, only huge sweet cakes, not good for people who have skipped lunch. The so-called A la Carte restaurant had just one fixed price, apparently for 2 courses, not my idea of A la carte! There was no TV and I didn't find a quiet room. But I liked the Wildlife presentation very much. Finding the ferry port in North Shields was not easy either - I think the main road had just one sign, partly obscured by trees, in the middle of road works. Having failed to take that exit, I went on to North Shields and had to stop and ask pedestrians, as I found no signs for the port in the town.

The cabins are dirty, battered and smell bad. I am glad we took our own pillows onboard. The duvets, while having clean covers in then, are in need of laundering. Table surfaces damaged, sticky and unhygienic. The first thing we bought in shop was hand sanitising gel because we were afraid of germs. Not a pleasant experience. We understand the nature of the turn around time to get ready for next guests sailing, but when things are old and tired, this is what you are presenting to customers and there’s no cosmetic cover up, the ship is ready for renewal. The rest of the facilities are adequate, airy and modern. Staff kind and helpful, particularly in restaurant, where the food is as delicious as ever. The shop on King Seaways is not as well stocked as the Princess.

The check-in process was welcoming and smooth, once in Lane to board the ship, the Marshaller was blasé with an attitude when asked why other vehicles were being loaded before our turn. On board the ship was not as clean as I would expect, with a lot of staff stood around not doing a great deal. I had pre booked the buffet meals for the family to enjoy, with great disappointment from all. At first I thought it was just me but the whole family commented on the poor quality of food and the fact it didn’t taste as it should. There were plenty of choices just either tasteless or quality of preparation was poor. I only give this one star because it won’t allow me to give none! My daughter wanted a hot chocolate drink that evening at a cost of £4 was absolute rip off to customers and the prices for consumables continued throughout the ship. The shop had reasonable priced clothing but not a great deal of choice. Duty free goods are priced well but, still have a decent profit margin on them for the company who sell. The cabins are basic with a small en suit, although good enough for a nigh or two. Our cabin was on deck 5, which seemed extremely noisy due to the engine throughout the whole journey. It was nice to have a window in the cabin on the outward journey as on our return we didn’t on deck 2. Deck 2 would have been quiet was it not for the baby next door that woke us at 04.30 and kept us awake until we docked. The cinema on board was basic but adequate for the film. You need to sit at the front as it is all level floor seating. All in all for the money paid for our journey, I would not recommended this service, as I feel it is over priced both for the journey and on board. In comparison to other services I have used DFDS services comes way behind on all aspects of value and service.

We travelled on DFDS Princess Seaways for the first time, in order to cut out the long drive from Scotland to Dover ferries at the start of our European holiday. The trip was great. We were welcomed to the restaurant by a lovely waiter named Ernie and well served. The cabin was good but with just one nasty problem: we were provided with one of the towels which had escaped washing and was unbelievably disgusting (yuck). Timing was great, the sea was calm and we really enjoyed the trip.

When we booked our trip, we informed you that I am disabled inasmuch as I have difficultly walking and my sight is not so good. I booked what I thought was a standard twin, what we got was bunk beds! I'm nearly 80 and my husband is in his seventies! Sleep was not forthcoming on the outward or return trip. I heaven tried to upgrade on the turn but the ship was fully booked. DFDS Had not been made aware of our needs so I can hardly blame them. I'm extremely disappointed with the service and will think very carefully before booking with you again. Boarding @ Newcastle was a bit of a wait whereas at ijmuiden on return trip we got onboard straight away! (2pm instead of 4pm)! Cabins are ok although VERY cramped! £4 for 1 tin of fanta @ Skybar is an absolute joke!!! Didn’t eat onboard as would have cost €90 for 3 of us!!!👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 I think £600 is way ‘overboard’ for the trip but i couldn’t be bothered driving from scotland to dover so ferry was easiest option! Will probably use again but try to book further in advance so i dont need to remortgage my house to travel with DFDS!😁

We booked a return trip from Newcastle to Ijmuiden as we were driving an old 1950s classic car on 2 week holiday to Germany. Unfortunately, it broke down after 8 days. I contacted DFDS straightaway to cancel the return trip but was told you can't, you've already used your ticket. They refused any discussion. It seems a little unfair for the company to ignore customers who have a valid reason for cancelling the return part of the journey and asking for a partial refund. In future we'll book single journeys. Other travellers might consider the same option.

"A tale of two halves"

Our overnight ferry trip out started fine - the ship left on time and we were loaded on board very quickly. Difficulties started around 30-45 minutes into the sailing. The ship stopped at sea for many minutes, then took off again slowly. The captain announced that there was difficulty with the engines and we would be delayed by approximately 3 hours. IE arriving at lunchtime rather than 9 am ish. However, when we woke up the next morning it was to the news that the ship was travelling much more slowly than before and it would be after 6 pm when we arrived. As we had a 5 hour plus journey to make on arrival, we were not impressed. We arrived at our next destination at 1 am after travelling for several hours in the dark. Not the best start to our holiday. In addition, the ship seemed "tired" and the food wasn't that great. The trip back was much better - we arrived at our destination on time for a start. The ship seemed newer and brighter (maybe had a makeover), the food better and we had a selection of wines with our meal.

Booked a five berth family room with window with excellent value just beds felt claustrophobic. Facilities were good onboard despite the vast expense £30 for a cheap bottle of wine and almost £5 for a bottle of alcohol. Spent £250 for four ppl evening meal and breakfast for the two day trip. Also didn’t realise transfers weren’t included so spent half the time in Amsterdam trying to get from the harbour only to trek back in time to catch the ship home- this should be more explicit when booking (they certainly try hard enough to get you to book their meals-only fair they should let this little gem be known even if they aren’t pocketing the cash). Overall a good trip just wish we had allowed longer in the city to make the most of the experience.

Ticketing, check in etc was very good. No hassles there. The outward trip - Monday evening from Newcastle - was the better of the two. Quieter overall. The return trip - Friday night from Amsterdam/Ijmuiden - not so good. A lot busier and noisier. Breakfast in particular was unpleasant. The food itself was OK, but the restaurant was just too busy. The notice outside says if you arrive during peak times "you might not get a window seat" - that's a bit of a joke, because you might struggle to get a seat at all! I felt the restaurant was under-staffed for this, and could actually have done with some more people on 'crowd control' - it was all a bit chaotic. The sailing locations suited me, but next time I'll be more careful which dates and sailings I use. Finally, the prices on board. Yes, you're on a ferry; yes, you're a captive market; but the mark-up on food and drink is unpalatable. A tin of Fosters for 5 euros?

After many hours and hundreds of miles motoring from Switzerland this overnight journey was just what we needed. The buffet meal was excellent, the ship's staff competant and friendly and the cabin and beds were very comfortable and clean. Only one minor downpoint was the late evening boistereness from the young lads in the next cabin but it didn't go on for too long. Perhaps a patrol now and again would have helped everyone settle.

Sadly due to the weather conditions the trip was very uncomfortable due to rough seas. Many people suffering from motion sickness. Not a lot the crew can do I'm afraid. The crew were courteous helpful and compassionate where needed. The Ferry was 4.5 hours late docking in Ijmuiden, again due to the sea conditions not a lot could be done. The thing is we got there in one piece, except for maybe a few wobbly legs and a few upset stomachs. So a big well done to DFDS.

"Some good some bad"

Firstly the good:- the kids loved it, and we only did this trip for them to experience a ferry. The kids club was brilliant and not something we were aware of so a good surprise. The price for a family of four was great too. That's it! Bad points:- we were told by the receptionist of dfds when getting boarding passes about where to get off and on our coach transfer in Amsterdam, we were also given a leaflet with this information on and a map. The leaflet states to go to bus stop g for collection back to the ferry, this was not the case as we realised after waiting through half an hour of the one hour time slot to get a coach back, we were almost stranded as I being heavily pregnant struggled to walk in a timely manner back to the drop off point (bust stop f, not even mentioned in the leaflet) I literally just caught the last bus. Then upon return to the ferry we went to our cabin which was a different one to the night before, we deposited our things and went for a coffee. Later we went back to the cabin and noticed there was still rubbish under the bed from the previous person, there were brown, what looked like chocolate, stains on both the bottom and top bunk beddings and mascara on another bedding. This was obvious the room had not been cleaned from the last occupant to us, it had been tidied but not cleaned. I can only assume the staff though the same people were returning and so didn't change the bedding, but obviously we weren't the same people. I told a crew member about this and was told it would be dealt with. We booked lunch but couldn't get in till 9:30pm, this was at a cost of £90 for a buffet for the four of us where the mince tasted like fish and everything else was cold or nothing left. Then we returned to our room to find nothing had been changed. We went to inform another cabin crew member, I found a man who stated he did not understand me and would get someone else, he never returned. By this time our children were tired and wanted to go to sleep, so we had to sleep the two of them in the one clean looking bed while me and my husband sat on another bed with our coats on and no sleep for the night. After a great first impression, everything went down hill from there and in future I think we will continue travel on ferries with P&O, who also at least have a convenience shop on board there ferries with the option to buy sandwiches and soft drinks if you don't want to pay extortionate rates to feed your family.

This is not a criticism of DFDS, but maybe you can apply some pressure. It took 52 minutes between starting the engine and leaving Port of Tyne - and we were not the last. Normally at Dover we reckon 20 minutes for that. Here's a suggestion - those of us who are allergic to cigarette smoke would be more comfortable if one outside deck could be non-smoking. Preferably the lower deck, as smoke drifts upwards. Another small point - the ticket said arrival time was 09:00 UK time. The captain announced that we would arrive on time at 10:30 ship's time (09:30 UK time). Please clarify this anomaly in future. On this site, please add an option N/A for catering - we didn't use it.

if you live in Scotland the Newcastle ferry is a quick way to get to the continent. Check in, boarding, the cabin and the communal areas were all fine. The staff were friendly and helpful. They even have live acts if that is your thing.

Comfortable as usual, and we appreciate the wide choice of films. The only annoying things are the early check-in time (90 mins compared with 45 mins on short crossings) and the time it takes to get off the boat at Ijmuiden. The boat was alreadt 15 mins late, and then it was an hour until we got off the boat and through passport control. I ticked that I would recommend, but I not do so in summer as the price is too high, and I would warn people to avoid Friday night from Newcastle, because of the rowdy drunkards.

"There and back again"

This was my second trip on the King Seaways within the past couple of months, and I am pleased to say it wasn't half bad. First time we took the two-day mini-cruise to Amsterdam from Newcastle, and due to technical issues with one of the five engines we arrived late. Foot passengers are only aloud to disembark after the vehicles have unloaded, and that plus going through customs and taking the bus into town took huge chunks of time out of our already limited excursion into Amsterdam. The last bus to take you back from the city center to the dock departs at 4pm, so we had a little less than 4 hours to explore. The return journey was also slow due to bad weather, and resulted in yet another late arrival back into Newcastle. Truthfully if you have the capacity to take a three day cruise, I would only for the sake of getting a reasonable amount of time in Amsterdam. The only compensation for the delay was a slight discount in the cruise's shop. Delays of 4 hours or more result in better compensation, but 2-3 hour delays don't pay out in time or money lost. The amenities, food, and cleanliness were all above standard for both my trips. Things to note however are as follows: 1. Your room assignment might change from what you booked online to what you receive in port if you are booking multiple rooms. However they are more than happy to accommodate changes once there. 2. Your ticket is paper, but will still get demagnetized if placed near your phone (free replacements issued) 3. BRING SHOWER SHOES. The showers are only separated from the rest of the bathroom by a curtain, and water will move freely across the floor. (Flip Flops at the ship's store cost 16 pounds) 4. Booking a meal, and reserving a meal are NOT the same thing. You must go down and reserve a table for your party at the buffet even if you booked the meal before boarding. (No drinks are included with the dinner buffet) 5. WEEKEND vs. WEEKDAY makes a big difference. Weekend cruises are generally still pretty rowdy until 3 or 4 in the morning. If you're a light sleeper, and the intense rocking doesn't keep you up, the club/dj just might. Weekdays are much tamer and more family friendly. 6. FREE Seasickness medicine is available at reception for anyone who hasn't quite got their sea legs. 7. Get the bus/shuttle service. The ports are quite far from both city centers and ubers to either port run pretty pricey. All in all, it's a great mini cruise with a few hiccups that can be overcome. The staff is very helpful, and the beds are surprisingly comfy so I'd definitely book it again for my next trip.

In general it was an OK crossing. We were kept up to date with delays due to bad weather. It did take 2 hours to disembark the boat and exit passport control - not ideal when you have an infant in the car and are trying to coordinate feeds. We did consider having food on the boat, but changed our minds when we saw it was £7 for soup! I appreciate there needs to be mark up on food, but that seems slightly excessive. My main complaint is the cost of telephone calls to check that I had booked our dog into a kennel. You are unable to alter a booking online if you have a booking with a pet, so the only option is to call. It took over 2 hours to actually be able to speak to someone. The kennel cost an additional £8...the telephone call cost £32! It may have been cheaper had we called from a landline, but we did not have this option as we live on the continent and had been holidaying in the UK for the new year. I hasten to add we both have UK mobile numbers. I am disappointed at both the time it took to speak to a representative and the incurred telephone calls. Being a frequent traveller from Europe to the UK, based on the time it took to disembark; the overly-inflated cost of food; and, the sheer lack of customer service representatives available to deal with telephone calls swiftly, I will probably use the Hull to Rotterdam crossing or the Euro tunnel for our subsequent visits.

Not tried the ferry for several years but air fares were exorbitant this time. Cabins are good but beware that the temperature control does not always work so it can get hot and very stuffy and the long standing problem of acrid diesel fumes filling the cabin presumably depending on which way the wind blows still remains. I had the evening buffet meal which I had been really looking forward to based on my past experience. It was very good going out but the staff warned me that catering would be changed on the return trip. Breakfast buffet next morning is also very good and sets you up for the day - there is both English style hot breakfast and Dutch cheese, hams and rolls. However yet again an engine had to be stopped so we arrived an hour late - no problem for me as I was on holiday for the next fortnight but no good for day trip passengers. Coming back the evening buffet menu main courses were indeed changed and poor - starters were fine and there was other food to compensate - all I can say is that the price had been reduced. Breakfast was unchanged and good. But I had little sleep because the cabin was hot and the temp control did not work and diesel fumes got in again. For restaurants that we’re not cheap the food quality was very poor. Kids burger with meat that Tasted like something you would be frost from Iceland. Pizza that was just avarege fro the price of £18. The price is not a problem if you are served food you can enjoy. Other than the food the journey was pleasant.

arrived at port in Amsterdam with no problems, staff were very friendly and booking the dogs in was not a problem. registered as a wheelchair user but loaded on to ferry where there was no access for the chair. room was not disable access, room allocated was situated half way down a corridor that was to narrow to self propel down, unable to gain access to room on chair had to transfer to sticks to gain access (not to good when crossing is not smooth. in enquiry all accessible rooms were fully booked, due to additional stock in shop s was unable to fully access all areas. no public bathroom facility's available for wheelchair users. again had to transfer and leave chair unatended.

"Fabulous trip"

Our flight with easyJet was cancelled and we had to find alternative transport to get home. Your customer service agent was able to quickly add our bus transfers which we didn’t realised we needed when we booked, his name was Jed Lambert. Despite having to wait for 45 minutes in the snow at Amsterdam once on the coach we were warmed up and soon on our way to the port. The greetings at the port was friendly and once again very welcoming once aboard and we were quickly directed to our cabin. The hospitality staff were friendly and accommodating too. I overheard a guest complaining at guest services about the delay. The Ship was delayed by an hour an half due to adverse weather conditions that was hampering the transfer buses getting all the additional guests to the port. I understand the ship had over 500 additional travellers!! I don’t know which of your staff dealt with the complaint but I must say that it was dealt with in a very professional manner explaining the bad situation they were in and that he was sure that they wouldn’t have wanted to be left behind. So please pass this on to your staff and say thank you from us!

Loved every minute of the trip. Only used the ferry as our flights from school were cancelled and booked last minute to get myself and 4 daughters home. "An Unexpected Journey"

When our return Aircraft was cancelled on a visit to Amsterdam we were faced with another three days in the city before we could get on an alternative flight. After reviewing our options we managed to book a berth on the Ferry leaving Amsterdam for Newcastle later that evening. The Ship WAS late in leaving but it was for reasons outwith their control. Once on board I found that the general standard of facilities and service far exceeded my expectations, especially considering the very reasonable fare. In fact the whole experience was much better than flying and the associated drag of going through Airport security, so much so that I would now consider using this Ferry again as a viable and more civilised way of travelling to mainland western Europe. It's a big thumbs up from me!

a large group of people were on the same ferry as us to amsterdam. we were located in the middle of there group. they were very noisy and didn't go to bed at all during the ferry crossing. from 2am until 5.30am they returned to their rooms shouting and then decided to have a party in their cabin down the corridor from us. at 5.30am i gave up and went upstairs to complain but it was pointless i had already spent the entire crossing awake. arrrived in amsterdam completely exhausted. i know its a party destination but large groups should be spread throughout the ship to prevent an accumulation of noisy people in one area where there are other passengers who may want to sleep.

"Good but only 3*"

The journeys were good and the cabin fine. However, as I have commented previously, the seating facilities for families are inadequate. The restaurants are too expensive, the lighthouse Cafe too small for the number of passengers to be served efficiently. My main point is that there is no reasonably-priced option for families with young children and on a budget. Also there are hardly any sitting areas for customers who want peace and quiet, rather than the noise of live entertainment. My other gripe is that our car was directed into a very narrow area where it was impossible to open the doors on one side. This made it extremely difficult when one has young children and bags to get out of the car. This is the second time in my 3 last journeys this has happened. This is really not good enough. It would be courteous of you to reply to these points and to know you are taking them into consideration.

"Poor guidance for parking in the boat"

Hand signals by the crew were confusing. I was told at one point that I had to get out without explanation. I imagined some disconcerting security check. In fact it was just that the space where my wife was to park was narrow, and I would not have been able to open the door. A little explanation would have made the experience much pleasanter, like on Caledonian Macbrayne, when the guy explained that cars had got wider, but they still had to cram 3 rows of cars in. Of course he was a native English speaker, so it came more naturally. Did not use the catering - needs a n/a response.

"Service has changed"

Dear Sir, we have travelled many times with your company to the Uk. We were always satIsfield with the competence of your staff. We travelled this time from Newcastle to Amsterdam and we were shocked how unfriendly the staff were. We received a cabin on deck 6and it was near the back of the ship. It was impossible to sleep as the noise from the engines were so loud that these cabins should not be used for guests. I asked the staff if it was possible to change and the answer was a very abrupt NO !!! We were 4 persons and all of us did not sleep or very little sleep at all. We also booked a table for an evening meal in the buffet restaurant and asked for a window seat. The young lady told us it was not possible as others from the mini cruise had reserved all of them. It was the way we were treated and I will not be using you company in the near future. Your standards have slipped as the catering was not as good as it used to be. Whilst the British pound is low against the Euro at present, it does not diminish the fact that the prices for everything on this ferry are over priced. The restaurants, bars and especially the internet are a complete rip off. Examples - steak dinner + bottle of Rioja EURO130, 150 ml wine Euro 9, Grouse whisky more than UK supermarkets. Next time I will fly. I also felt that measures from the bar were inaccurate, e.g. 300 ml of wine was at most 250 ml. In general ship was clean but a little tired.

We travel by Ferry at least twice a year and always have a good experience. This time however, there were too many students. Sitting blocking the corridors to get to your room. They have no manners and won't move for you, so you end up climbing over them. Even if there was a room they could all gather it would help with the conjestion.

Going out, where do I start, got onboard sorted out where our cabin was then went to see about evening meal, we booked our table in the all you can eat buffet, the lady put on the paper 75,75€, for 3 adults, our table number and time, we sat down to have our meal, then the waiter come over and asked if we want coffee, yes plz, 3 coffees, at the end of our meal we asked for the bill, our bill was £122, it was 37€ each for the meal, then it was 34€ for 5 coffee’s, I went and spoke to the lady who we booked our meal with for the paper we got off her for our booking, she was rude and spoke to us like we was dirt on her shoe, so we told her we are going to compline, she said I’m not bothered, I can understand booking meals when booking tickets for discount, but for charging ppl an extra £12/13 for not booking early, is a rip Off, then to be charged extra for coffee, is a rip off, on the way back on the king seaway, 1000000000% better, staff fantastic, couldn’t fault them, they had a cafe onboard with cheap meals, all round fantastic, my star rating will be based on going outbound, not inbound on king seaways

Very very expensive on board. Some of the staff acted as iff they owned the ship, others were polite and helpfull. Standard cabins are cramped. The showers are old and mouldy. On both ways ,a return journey we sat in the car for over an hour waiting to disembark . On return to Newcastle allow 1.5hrs because of the silly border control system in place. Note your mobile phone moves onto Telenor maritime without any notification. I blew my 25 quid credit i had in 15 minutes usage, so data roaming off and dont answer calls

Soon when We arrived in a cabin we set up bungbed and then we hear shouting from next room lot of swearing,freds into words us! I must say very unpleasant and scary experience. Especially when you travel with children and you just comeback from holiday. That was English girl and I must admit her language were so improprietied and run ouer experience. Lokley staff responde quickly and move ouer family to different cabin where we could relax. Unfortunately some people are so rude they should be removed and band from traveling to avoid similar situations until they learn how to behave appropriately.

"Floating cash sink - take your own food!"

Unlike other ferries where there is a usually variety in catering and costs, the cost of food on-board is outrageous - Do take your own food unless you wish to be charged over 100 for a family's fish'n'chip supper (the same meal on the Rotterdam-Hull ferry costs around 40): the all-you-can-eat buffet at 35 per head has little competition as the cost of single meals/drinks are extortionate: there is no mid- or low- price option. One exception: you can buy a hotdog from the Skybar, but this bar only opens in fair weather. Staff varied: some were rather rude (cinema, female in one of the bars, deck cleaning crew) and others were very competent, helpful and friendly. Navigator Bar charges over £7 for a single glass of wine. On the return journey, my husband and children were in the cinema and when the film finished early, they tried to leave only to find they'd been left inside (for clarity, the cinema is on the very bottom deck, below the cars. Safety?? The group had to let themselves out via the fire exit. On a positive note, thank you for getting our technical issue sorted very quickly (the cabin door kept opening of its own accord): the engineer was with us within 15 mins of it being reported and fixed it quickly. The 5 berth cabin is functional, but best only for smaller children only as the 3-high bunks are coffin-sized and unsuitable for adults or teenagers. We found the ensuite to be functional and generally clean. To summarise: the onboard experience is designed to separate you from your cash. Take your own food/drink with you and you'll save a king's ransom.

I travelled with DFDS several times already but this trip was... worst of all so far. Usually is OK but this time I had a problem with aircon in my cabin - it was extremely cold and I wasn't able to turn the cooling off. I went to a service desk to ask for some help. I was promissed someone would be sent but unfortunately nobody came - we left the ferry almost frozen. Not to mention that my pet again had to spent tho whole journey in my car - some 18 hours. It's strange why dogs are allowed to kennels or even cabins but cats for some reasons not. If you wish to travel with your pet pick another operator.

When booking my trip I learned that my pet would be placed in some kennel. Unfortunately, when boarding I learned the kennels are for dogs only. My cat had to stay in a car for the whole journey (approx. 18 hours); quite a long time. I know cats sleep most of their time - however - such issues like food, water, pee etc... Should I have left the cat loose inside the car so he could use tray when needed? A bit strange. Why some dogs can be kept in kennels or taken to rooms but cats not...? Had I known it before I would have chosen different type of travel.

Always use this route with caravan for Europe. Much cheaper early part of week, upgrade your cabin at N. Shields if you choose and if possible. When I booked the cabins I looked at the pictures showed and it had two beds but not as bunks as we are all of the older genation we did not want to climb the ladder to get into bed. After this the staff got us 1 cabin on deck 5 and 1 on deck 11, well done the staff. This was the first time I booked though directferries and we did not get what we booked? The crossing was good in most respects, I have used this service many times before. However this time I was on deck 6 and the noise from the engine was so bad that I really struggled to sleep, not had this before. Difficult as maybe that's the problem with that deck, would definitely try and not be on that deck again. Apart from that the shop is clean and plenty to do, plenty of eating places and very friendly staff.

The original price seemed high but it got us from A-B and don't have much to compare it too. Only service available as far as I'm aware so hands were tied. Rooms are tiny but manageable. Shower was okay if i remember right. I got an eye infection from linen or bedding on ship. Woke up and immediately had a sore eye lid. Swollen for a week right through an important wedding a few days later. It was definitely from here. Food on ship is a rip off and terribly cooked. Had fish and chips at 9.50pm and kitchen must shut at 10. Didn't realise or probably wouldn't have bothered staff as i understand working service. Came out quicker than I got to my seat and really wasn't good. Friends ordered too just after me and same story. They didn't receive their full dish so when they asked for the rest - albeit a small portion of their dish - we were told the kitchen was shut. Had buffet in morning- hot breakfast was terrible and limited for price. Cold meats were so manufactured. Fairly large selection of cold stuff however. The staff ushered us on with it so didn't feel welcome. Although one member was very helpful bringing coffee etc over. The shop on board is a rip. Snacks are a rip. Everything is a rip off. Stop taking advantage of being the only thing available and charging absorbent amounts for anything. Been around 10 major cities and destinations in Europe prior to this boat and it was the most expensive. Sure they made a total fuss about using different currencies to pay for stuff like it was such an inconvenience. Traveling partner tried to exchange money in morning from on board service and they said they were shut even though they served the guy in front. Fair enough you have to stop somewhere. But the guy sat there doing nothing for next 10 minutes and everyone waited around. Also took an age to get off the boat but I understand the logistics must be difficult. Although we 'docked' at 9. Got there at 9 ish. Nobody moved from the ship car dock until 10. 1 hour??? Weather was reasonable all night and in morning. You guys do this daily. I maybe just don't understand what goes into it. Maybe tell people you dock at 10. They tell you to be in car at like 8.30 and wake you up on tannoys at like 6.

Mt cabin (515) was on Deck 5. The ship was cold, especially in my corridor and the heating in the cabin did not work properly. The ship looks run down and could do with an upgrade. There is no reasonably-priced restaurant for families. Your Blue Riband and Voyager restaurants are very expensive. Stena Line on the Hook-Harwich service offers much more sensibly priced eating facilities. MAIN POINT: I was not at all satisfied where my car was put. It was not put in the normal car deck but up a ramp on Deck 4 in a long, very narrow place. One could hardly get the car doors open and the vehicle risked being scratched. I do not intend to have my vehicle parked there next time, so please note!! I have ticked recommend but only because yours is the only service to Newcastle.

If you don't have to interact with the staff, Directferries is mildly okay. However, the rude responses I received from the staff made me decide to never use this line again. They typically complained when helping me with my luggage, so eventually I told them I could carry it for myself if there was an issue. I brought a bike along as well and had very little helping getting it on and off board, which would normally be fine, but it was tough finding my way around on a big ferry. I was only greeted by some sort of friendliness, from the UK border control, when I arrived at Newcastle. In general, it was just a poor experience because of the staff. If you don't interact with them at all (I.e. never leaving your room or having no luggage) I'm sure your trip would be... okay.

It was alright. We have been on 3 different ferries before, but this night ride was not so pleasent as my family with two little girls was placed in the room where you could hear the motor so loud that it was hard to fell asleep. The initial cost for 3 adults plus car represents good value. The cabins were clean and the staff were always friendly and the Commodore cabin we had on our return was a real treat! Comfortable double bed, spacious shower/toilet, free mini bar, free breakfast all for £30 more - if we travel this way again we will definitely travel in the Commodore accommodation and I have already recommended it to others. However the food and drink prices were ridiculous. We had 3 fairly ordinary pizzas and 2 beers for 65 euros!! It made us bring our own food and wine for the cabin on our return trip.

We went and took the boat as we wished travel through Europe with our car. Boarding and leaving the boat was easy. The staff are kind and are willing to help. Facilities are nearly endless. Food is good, downside side is that you need to book you time and tables to eat. So it makes you feel like you part of a school canteen group. This really lived up to expectations, even though it rained in Amsterdam it didn't seem to matter. we took the coach provided from Imjuiden and arranged our own walking tour, visit to Rembrant haus museum (fabulous) then a nice lunch and it was time to rejoin the transfer coach. Cant think of better way to see Amsterdam. we have done seeral of these trips and take in different site seeing visits. You could of course opt to stay over for a few days but we like repeating the ferry experience. "Really pleasant trip"

I used this ship 6 days ago travelling from Newcastle to Amsterdam. We got our cabin immediately and got the chance to spend some quality time on board. We tried the buffet restaurant and although the price of €35 per person sounds high it is fairly reasonable compared to other companies that you pay the same money for a salad and a main course. Great variety of food overall. Also, for the size of the ferry and the length of the trip having 3 restaurants, 3-4 bars and a cinema is more than enough. The fare price is also really good. For the same length of trip, same car and same type of cabin we paid double price from Ancona Italy to Patras Greece 3 days later. Overall great experience that I would highly recommend to everyone even for a quick weekend to Amsterdam.

Traveled with my sister and we were both very impressed with all aspects of the trip. The food on board was a little expensive but there was a lot of choice. Had a great experience with our crossing the three of us booked a commodore deluxe cabin (King Seaways) and we were very impressed with the three very comfy single beds (Not Bunks) plenty of other space 2 large windows TV, large ensuite and a few drinks including beer awaiting us in the fridge, we also had free access to the lounge with complimentary beer wine and nibbles. Dinner was good (Not Included) and the included all you can eat breakfast was great and all we needed for the rest of the day. Great Value and very friendly staff AAA+

This was our 6th cruise between Newcastle and Amsterdam. Kids loved it and so did we. I went to report plumbing noise in our cabin and was really pleased with fast reaction of the team. "A Relaxing Way to Travel."

For the first time my wife and I travelled Commodore De-luxe on our crossing from Amsterdam to Newcastle and we were really treated most wonderfully throughout the entire crossing. The Commodore lounge with unlimited access to Tea, Coffee, Decaffeinated Coffee was only a few steps down the corridor and the breakfast in the morning set us up for the next leg of our journey. The free wi-fi in our cabin made the journey even more enjoyable.

"A most relaxing way to travel"

I recently took the Amsterdam Newcastle crossing, together with my two kids, for a camping trip in the north of England. I decided on this route as we'd had a good experience a few years ago and, since I wanted to be sure that we all arrived relaxed and rested, I paid a little bit more and we travelled Commodore DeLuxe. It was money well spent. The crossing was fantastic, the staff were helpful and cheerful, the cabin was fantastic and everything worked smoothly. Even the problem I had on leaving the ferry (car wouldn't start) was dealt with quickly and with no drama. The only downside I feel is the cost of the evening meal which, although very good, I felt was overpriced. All in all I recommend this as a way to travel and will be taking this route again next summer.

I'm a terrible traveller suffering awful motion sickness, so I dosed myself with tablets. On the outward journey, had an outside twin which was fine if a little noisy. The a la carte restaurant was very good. Had a comfortable nights sleep. Returning upgraded to commodore. Nicer room, bigger shower, less noise! Had breakfast in the room which was very good. Overall, the whole experience was extremely positive. Staff in commodore were super.

"Get a higher floor"

We were travelling on the princess on way to amsterdam and had a fantastic journey, indoor cabin on 10th floor was so quiet and we all had a grey sleep. Way home was in the king and was unfortunately not quite so peaceful, although we had booked same type of cabin both ways and paid same price we were not informed when booking that on the king there are no indoor cabins the size we had booked, we were therefore in an outside cabin on 5th floor. Turns out this is incredibly close to the engine and the cabin vibrated and rumbled all night do we got very little sleep. Could not fault anything else about either journey, staff were all excellent, rooms were clean, entertainment for the kids was excellent and the food was all delicious. Would do the journey again and would recommend to friends however would suggest phoning to book and requesting a higher floor rather than booking online.

We all enjoyed our trip and found the facilities and accomodation to be of a high standard. Though I am quite satisfied with the service I have received, there is one thing that has annoyed me on this particular trip. I was quite appalled that people where shouting and running in the halls late at night. I did not get a good night sleep due to that. We were somewhat peterbed to discover that we had had allocated to us a two berth abin with a n upper and lower bunk on the outward journey. No indication had been given that htis would be the case; indeed, I was unaware that such cabin arrangements existed on midern ships. As a 75 year old person,I can tewll you getting in asnd out of a top bunk is not easy and not a littlwe hazaardous. Not a patch on the Hull Rotterdam ferry for comfort. Doubt if we will travel this way again.

I was on the deck 2 which is noisier than others as it is nearer the engines but I only paid £40 so I spent an extra 99p on some earplugs before I got on the boat. No issues with arrival times and the bus was promptly waiting to take people into Amsterdam when we arrived. If you don't already know though things are expensive one you are on the boat but the facilities are decent.

"The kids loved it!"

We usually fly from Germany to the UK but decided to take the car on the ferry this time and our kids (6 and 4) declared it "the best journey ever". Friendly staff on-board, plenty to do until bed time (e.g. cinema and kids' corner) and clean cabins. The journey to Newcastle was very rough and our cabin on deck 2 was very loud with engine noise and the sound of waves crashing against the ship (at least i think that's what it was). On the return journey, however, it was quiet enough to get a good night's sleep. Next time I would probably pay a bit more for a cabin higher up. The breakfast buffet was good with plenty of choice. Didn't book an evening meal as I found the price too high for kids who don't eat much.

A few days before Amsterdam we sailed from Igoumenitsa to Ancona with Anek. Not good - indifferent staff at the ticket office, ship hours late without explanation, bad tempered shambles getting the car on and off board, v noisy cabin, poisonous food - and v expensive. The bar staff were cheery, the only good thing I can say. Compared with the Anek approach your service was just great! Some points which could improve the DFDS experience : 1) as before I booked online, car plus outside cabin for 2 with low- level beds. We were allocated bunk beds, no good to oldies like us. The confirmation printout didn't indicate bunk beds. The cabin was swiftly exchanged by helpful staff but maybe you could look at the on- line booking process to reduce the chances of such confusion. 2) it becomes really irritating to be compelled to show the cabin ticket every time one buys anything from the self- service counter. 3) on this voyage in previous years we have had good service and reasonably decent food in the self- service resto. However on the 5-weeks-earlier leg from Newcastle > Ijmuiden we were handled (I cannot say served) by a Dutch or Danish lady in need of retraining. To be frank, she was unpleasant, ill- mannered, bad- tempered and let it show. I had fish and chips, chips OK, fish tasteless and inedible. So on our most recent trip we got a café to make up sandwiches & salad which we ate in the cabin. Hope this helps. Overall, the Newcastle/ Ijmuiden service is handy for us, we've used it a number of times and will continue to do so. Carrying sandwiches.

I was very disappointed by my recent ferry from Amsterdam (Ijmuiden) to Newcastle. I was made to feel like I was priced out of all catering facilities and eateries simply because I did not treat it as a cruise. I and my friend caught the ferry home from Amsterdam as a taxi, NOT as a cruise. However the prices being charged and the facilities available were cruise liner prices. There was very little on offer to eat for us both who simply wished for a basic evening meal and breakfast as opposed to full three-course meals. I do not believe that this is too much to ask! Also the fact that the internet is not only restricted to ONE room on the ship, but also costs is very poor. AND the internet connection was awful when we did connect to it. In this day and age I think it would be courteous to at least offer free WiFi on board. However offering a substandard connection for 8 euros is not good value for money. As a result we were very bored in the evening. Our cabin was very small and basic, though had everything we could expect for the price. Overall I do not see this ferry as good value for money. If I was including this as part of my holiday then I perhaps would, but I think it is unfair to almost be penalised for not treating it like a cruise. My recommendation.....BE PREPARED TO SPEND PLENTY OF MONEY!

"Excellent way to start/finish your holiday"

We live in Newcastle and are tired of having to trek to Manchester airport every summer so it was great to start and finish our travel so conveniently. We (myself husband and two kids, aged 11 & 8)booked an ensuite berth with window, and whilst I wouldn't have wanted to spend a week in the space, were pleased with what we had. We watched a film on board and had a tea from our cool bag (the restaurant was fully booked when we enquired two weeks before travel). We had a good night's sleep and arrived in Netherlands ready for action. The return journey was a little rougher (thanks hurricane Bertha) and our 8 yr old wasn't up to the Seven Seas buffet so my husband and I ate in relay so that someone could stay with our son in the berth - the staff were very helpful and gave us a plate of crackers and cheese for when he woke up starving, which he did. There are light snack options on board as well as Seven seas which we didn't appreciate before travel. All in all, highly recommended.

Ladies and Gentlemen, The crossing, both ways, went very well. Our grandsons has a great time during the crossing. I only have to say that nobody told us that on our deck, we were on deck 8, breakfast was available at reasonable prices. We two senior citizens (70 plus) who only eat certain type of foods found the food to be very expensive. We discovered when we were returning to our cabin other people had booked buffet meals. There was also the fact that I (with two crutches) had to use a lot of energy to get to and from deck 7. I think this should be mentioned earlier. The crew member that we asked the night before told us we could only get breakfast from deck 7. Everything else was great. Kind regards.

"A Smooth Crossing"

We travelled on DFDS at the start of a mammoth journey by car to Greece. The reason we drove was to ba able to take our dog as we going there for a month. The ferry experience both ways was excellent. The boarding process was very efficient- only problem was when we arrived at Ijmulden to return we queued up with everyone else, only to get to the front of the queue and be told we had to go back out and check in at the main office desk so the dog's passport to be checked and stamped. This was not made clear on the ticket printout. The cabins were very comfortable and well appointed. We had an outside on our outward journey and an inside on the way home. Both were OK but I do like to see the light in the morning. We used the Seafarer buffet which was very good and the food was well replenished throughout so there is no need to rush for the beginning of the service. Very good journey each way, pleasant cabin, good food and service. Embarking and disembarking on both trips not well done with unneccesary queing and complications.Arrival in Newcastle took an hour and a half to clear customs and immigration in queue lines. Having used this service many times as our preferred route to the continent we were dismayed when dining at the evening buffet, which was prepaid and booked in advance; there was no drink of any kind included in the price! There were bottles of wine on each table at €33 but at that price no takers of course. The buffet wasn't cheap to start with but that really took the biscuit. It seems now that everywhere you look you see examples of this greed, or is it desparation? Ferry routes are being withdrawn at an alarming rate, presumably due to cheap budget flights, so what will happen to car users?

"Finding our car"

Everything on the ship was excellent except signage to the car deck. We had carefully noted the level and door number of where the car was parked. When we came to disembarkation we could not find the signs to our door. On 2 occasions we asked a crew member directions and on both occasions they sent us on totally the wrong direction. On the third attempt the crew member was more helpful and told me us exactly were our required door was but it was now unaccessible due to the crush of foot passengers disembarking. She the explained an alternative route which was NOT the one given on the 2 previous occasions. On examination after the event I believe we could not initially find the direction sign to our door was because it was being obscured by the waiting foot passengers. Additional signage on the opposite site of the ship would have been helpful.

Found this way of getting to mainland Europe very good and economical, outward journey from Newcastle was near faultless, but on our return, we were given a cabin with bunk beds. The cabin layout (Kings Seaways Ship on homeward journey), was not as good as the (Princess Seaways Ship outward journey), and using the top bunk was very difficult for a mature adult. The water pressure on our return journey on the KSS was very poor, making showering difficult. The restaurant staff on the return journey were superb, giving us a nice table with a sea view, going out we were give a table near a passageway, in full view of everyone commuting about the ship, not much privacy when having a meal and a bottle of wine. Overall, I would use the service again, but would book, avoiding the Kings Seaway Ship.

Once off the boat, it was just as bad as the customs officers held all bar one of the motorcycles to the very end allowing all of the other vehicles including cyclists through passport control first. Not a very good welcome or first impression for all of the foreign motorcyclists visiting the country. Surely there could be more customs officers placed on duty to open more of the control kiosks to allow quicker flow through.

I have travelled regularly on this service over the last 3 years, having family in Germany and I have always found the service of high quality, the vessels are always spotlessly clean, the food of the highest quality if a little on the expensive side,the accomadation satisfactory, and on board services good, one small quibble I have are large jars marked TIPS which appear on every drink dispenser,and in conversations with other travellers can be annoying, I presume the bar staff are paid so to expect to be tipped every time they serve you can be irritating,other than that a usually enjoy able experience.

By boat to Scotland, a perfectly organized crossing with all the amenities! Even during the online booking everything was very well described, the check in was smooth, everything was already prepared, waiting time at the Key about 20 minutes. There was calm and professional, the vehicles had enough space. The ferry, the ship was with 9 decks already one of the bigger ones and it took a while until they had oriented. Shortly after the timely filing opened the duty free shops and the run on the bargains was started. We were told by a very patient and friendly staff, the benefits of single malts from Scotland and after the third sample we had to stop, otherwise we would no longer found the cabin;) The time can be good bridge in the different restaurants / movie theaters / bars. The standard cabins are enough for two people, equipped necessary even for four people. All in all, a nice way to start his vacation to Scotland!

I used to leave in Scotland but still had business down in central Europe. I have decided to drive down once instead of flying. The price is roughly the same, the accommodations are good and the overnight sail convenient. For the rather small difference in price I would take the upper class cabins next time (commodore). The time it took to disembark in Amsterdam was too long though, so I would no recommend having important scheduled meetings right in the morning.

We found the boarding process to be very smooth and efficient, the staff were helpful and friendly. Our cabin was clean, if I had to find one area for improvement then I would say that most of the straps that held the top bunks and the places to seat the ladder were in poor condition. On a ramp that is actually too narrow for a car to fit miraculously, but two side by side. Everything is a little tight here. So it goes on, the stairs, the corridors and the rooms are trimmed for maximum space savings. Nevertheless, we arrived quite relaxed in England in this way. The ferry is recommended in any case, if you will in the north of Britain with your own car. Without a car, a flight is probably more convenient, faster and cheaper.

We found our travel experience a positive one. Rather than always flying we decided to go by ferry, having the first big advantage of not having to rent a car. Our kids loved it and there is plenty to do and to see between the time the ships departs and their bedtime. The King Seaways was a better boat, it also has (more) Commodore and also Commodore Deluxe cabins. We booked a Commodore cabin which I can highly recommend! The price isn't that much higher than a regular cabin but it is more spacious, includes priority boarding (which is a plus at customs) and it includes breakfast. On the other leg we were on the Princess Seaways which was also ok but looked a bit more dated. Although we booked months in advance, we were unable to get a Commodore Cabin. The breakfast is pretty expensive and not special at all. The whole food experience is not as great as it could be. I'd read reviews before our journey and decided to bring our own food. The King Seaways even has picnic tables on decks so that worked out well. All in all a good experience, kids loved it and it was pretty comfortable (especially Commodore class and up).

Easy access to the ferry. Clean and appropriate equipment for securing of the motorbikes. Both dinner and breakfast buffet was reasonably priced and good. A comfortable way to save 900 kilometres of driving over a night and instead having two nice meals, some drinks, entertainment and a nice sleep.

"Round trip Scotland"

Excellent alternative to flying, which we used for a tour around Scotland. For the first part we enjoyed live music on the upper deck. Afterwards we had an excellent meal in the restaurant, read a little in a quiet spot and slept very well on the outward journey. The inside hut is adequate and well ventilated. On the return journey a quiet spot to read, again an excellent meal and continued to enjoy ourselves with live music and entertainment in the Captens bar. Slept very well again (cabin with window) and headed home well rested the following morning. Wait times for check-in with car are very acceptable. Highly recommended for a trip to edinburgh or Scotland.

"Dutch Holiday 2013"

Travelled to Amsterdam at end of June to attend Moto GP in Assen and then begin a 10 day holiday. Ferry trip was excellent. Travelled with husband and 2 children, aged 16 and 15. Entertainment was good on both journeys. Ship was very clean and staff very helpful. We had booked an en-suite inside berth, which was small, but we had expected this anyway. Make sure you take plenty of money for the ship, as food and drink is very expensive, although plenty of choice, but this was the only disadvantage of the whole trip. Would recommend it as a way of travelling, as you arrive at your destination refreshed and relaxed. Would definitely travel this way again in the future.

Forgetting the hen parties, stag dos, over priced food and drink, dear prices of goods in the inboard shop, this is a nice way to get to the continent and certainly much better than the return drive to Dover. At 6 Euros for a small red wine and 5 for a beer it's a good way to keep sober for the onward drive. I complain about it but I would use it again.

Ferry is basicly a good alternative to go with own car to scotland. Unfortunatelly the "King Seaways was built in times when carss were smaller. We were sent to deck 6. There are 3 lanes next to each other. First one has to take the left or right lane to park. Last, the middle-lane. Can not step out the car without damaging the next one (think of SUVs and Minivans). Should not take a ferry like this. No proper order wwhen it comes to embark and disembark the cars from ferry. Total chaos. Very disappointing! Cabins are acceptabel, thus clima is not working. Will hear your cabin-neighbours. Use ear-plugs!

We went on our trip to Scotland with DFDS Seaways and everything worked great. Against our nausea in heavy seas we even got free at the reception tablets. Only the breakfast and dinner, which you can book separately at check-in, we found a little overpriced. Therefore, we did not book the meals on the way back went on our own supplies (which we still had to satisfy) evaded. The cabins were clean and tidy, the staff very friendly. 'll Be back! But will also be a must as there is no alternative to coming up with your own car hassle free to Scotland. ;-)

Although the car deck is a little narrow, which usualy is not problematic, however. Anyone but getting in and check-out is used in the cross channel ferry, which must be here somewhat change. The loading is accomplished by not always comprehensible criteria. Automobiles, but those are about the same size arrive much later, be partially charged faster than the same size, the wait for some time. Overall, the charging process is very slow. On the border DFDS Seaways has probably little influence. However, two passport checks each way appear to me superfluous. (Again, see ferries channel)

The commodore class cabin was excellent, we pre-purchased dinner on both trips we chose the steak restaurant going out and the a la carte coming back, We were disappointed on both occasions, the steak menu set price was limited to 1 choice of steak and we had to pay extra for the steaks of our choice, this we would have gladly paid for if we had been told when we purchased them at the boarding ticket office, even paying extra the experience was not top class, however the service was good, but the food was not up to what i would expect. we are traveling again with DFDS SEAWAYS in July but we will not be pre-booking our food again. DISEMBARKING IN NEWCASTLE WAS SHAMBOLIC, THIS WAS NOT THE SHIPS FAULT, UK CUSTOMS TOOK THIRTY MINUTES TO LET US PAST AND THEY NEVER EVEN ASKED ME FOR A LOOK INSIDE MY TRAILER! i have ticked the yes box for recommending your service but i will warn them about pre -buying the food.

"Really great experience..."

Our outward journey from Amsterdam was a real eye-opener. Loading was very efficient and our room was compact and well-appointed, especially the bathroom, which I expected to be extremely tiny. I am a large woman and the bathroom area was more than adequate for my use and I was very comfortable using the facilities. The ship provided many diversions for the 16-hour journey, meaning that when we went to dinner at one of the restaurant choices, there were no queues, seating was fast and service was good. We were also travelling with a 1-year old child and the staff were all very helpful in that respect. Restaurant prices are quite expensive, but once you understand that that's the way it is, it is quite easy to settle down and have a nice meal. Our outward meal was EXCELLENT!! I am sure that was the best Ceaser Salad that I have ever eaten and my step daughter raved over the soup. I would quite happily have ordered another salad as my dinner choice. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the rose we selected was also the perfect choice. We were impressed and were already looking forward to the trip home!! However, the waiter neglected to bring bread to our table or inform us that there were other options besides french fries with our meal (for example, I would have opted for the baked potato). The side-effect of this was a lower tip than I would normally have left. Our return trip was great in every respect except for the one we were most looking forward to, our meal. This time we we both ordered the Ceaser Salad, but this one in no way lived up to the one served on the outward journey. In fact it was quite disappointing. However, the rest of the meal and the service was excellent. The servers even provided us with some extra bread for the baby, which was very much appreciated. My step daughter is already planning another trip for her whole family and I don't think I will ever fly to the UK again. In fact I may even go there more frequently! The entire trip definitely deserves an 9.5 out of 10!! Great job DFDS!!

"Unforseen Gymnastics"

I made this trip about 7 or 8 times. Usually you can park your car and take the lift to your cabin in comfort. Cabins are usually OK, a bit 1980ish, but toilet, shower and so on work. On the way from Amsterdam to Newcastle I ran this time into some special load of huge parts resulting in the normal cars being "parked" in a makeshift lane that was so narrow that the staff instructed me to leave the car at the passenger door. After knocking the luckily re-detachable radio button off, you then had to carry all your luggage beside about 20 cars with nearly no space and all mirrors having to be retracted. Since there was again no space for a whole person beside the cars you had to lift your luggage over these 20 cars, either scratching them on doing your back in. At the end was a very narrow stairwell where you had to lift the luggage two stairs up. Biggest problem really was that these gymnastics really became totally unannounced. On the way back next morning when I knew what was coming I could choose a closer door to where my car was and was prepared. I also ended up on this trip having a cabin on deck 2 which would have meant under all the rocket and military parts they where shipping. Luckily I got a cabin on deck 11 after paying an extra 50 Euros. Usually I end up between deck 5 and 8. The trip itself was OK. There don't seem to be that many feral drunk youngsters that hang out everywhere at night. I spotted the odd security staff earlier at night, so maybe hopefully they finally sorted that one out. With the Princess Seaways and the MS King Seaways you feel their 80's build. Both ships have 4 large rescue ships and two small ones. It seems in case of emergency that most of the people would end up in these small inflatable boats. How one would reach them I have no idea. Staff is usually friendly but feels a bit exacerbated and tired at times. Communication in English has never been a problem. The only bad experience was when drunk youngsters were roaming the ship at night and reception wasn't interested. Compression in the beds when the North Sea is quite wild can be quite high if you have a cabin at the from of the ship. Noises from stuff banging at other stuff will then also become quite noisy and you have to get used to it that it doesn't mean the ship is now sinking. I am not talking small creaking noises here but continuous loud bangs. The trip is OK for business as it minimises my travel times in the UK and in Europe. Meals are OK. The shop tries to sell you the usual Duty Free Mix of oversized sweetie bags and booze and fags and perfume. A toilet on the Amsterdam side that is close to the cars wouldn't be a bad investments when you have to wait sometimes for hours, i.e. this time when they loaded all their Dutch military parts and rocket parts. There is one in the terminal but if you are travelling alone you have no idea when the loading will start and you are the only one who can move the car.

I have travelled with DFDS seaways numerous times, and was always very happy with the service until my recent journey, as i was allocated a lower deck cabin which i hadn't booked. The cabin was the shabbiest i ever stayed in on the boat and there was no electricity. When I tried to sort things out, the staff member wasn't helpful at all. Though he did send someone to fix the electricity, it went off again after an hour. No apology or compensation was offered. very disappointing service!

To have your own car over there in United Kingdom is very comfortable, that's why I chose travel by ferry. The ferry looks more like a big hotel and the inside cabins are more comfortable than some hotels on the main land. The trip was pleasant and the beds were excellent, we were away from home for 7 weeks and these were the best beds for the whole trip. Also, we were allocated a cabin in the midst of 94 teenagers on a school excursion. "Shockingly expensive in the bar!"

I have recently returned from a mini cruise on this ferry and found the prices in the bar can only be described as SHOCKING !!!, being a non drinker I ordered a cranberry juice when the bar man scowled at me and snarled out that the price would be £2.00 for a half of a vodka glsas full of DILUTED juice , they couldn't even give you fresh!! I duly paid my money to the obnoxious head bar man (who I could have happily pulled over the bar because of his attitude) and walked away. I always thought robbers wore a mask when they were having your money away but it seems DFDS are quite happy to be upfront when they rob you. All I can say is if you are travelling on any of these ferries its an idea to take your own drink and soft drinks on board with you (unless you don't mind paying nearly £7.00 for a vodka and a mixer) if you are going with kids your budget could be seriously dented. I don't mind paying for services and goods as long as they are value for money , I just don't like being ripped off. So in summary check the price of everything before you order it as you could have a short very expensive trip.

"Not great value for money"

First the positives: the ship was on-time and the staff were friendly and helpful. After we boarded and entered our cabin (commodore class) we were told, that due a BBC-organised youth event it could be a bit loud. The steaks which were ordered "well done" were served rare, but after a complaint were exchanged to an alternative product. The cabin (commodore class for two for 950€) was below standard. Old, IKEA-like interior which looks like has been there since the 80's. It's a sad story for the DFDS management which has increased prices with the quality dropping. I can remember 10 years ago, you could travel from Hamburg to Harwich for half the price with the ship in a lot better state.

I booked a trip for my family - 2 adults + 1 infant, in mid-April 2012. The check-in process at Amsterdam was quite smooth and fast and we boarded at 16:00. The ship departed on the dot and was a smooth sailing all along. Booked an outside cabin with bunk beds, reasonable space for a small family. Cabin was basic with minimum furnishing and toilets were in good condition. Would recommend the ship and route.

"Good ship but cabin not up to standard!"

Went on trip to Amsterdam last year on this boat. Onboard experience was pretty good albeit at a price and there was enough to do with cinema, few bars and restaurants etc. Only gripe was the cabin. We booked an inside cabin for 2 (bunk beds) which weren't uncomfortable but for the price of the ticket i expected a bit more. The 'wardrobe' was effectively a few hangers and the en suite was more like a cupboard than a bathroom. If you want to spend time in the cabin other than sleeping then best not to book a basic one like i did.

"King ferry"

I travelled on the Newcastle Amsterdam King ferry with my wife in September. We booked the commodore de luxe cabin as got a deal and also because its a long journey! The room service was a bonus and the cabin itself was like a high class hotel room! There was a huge selection of tasty food in the 7 seas buffet and a visit is highly recommended. There were other places to eat but we didn't try. There were a few bars to choose from but we spent most of our time in the Compass lounge. Shopping was pretty good, but fortunately for me not too good! Only down side is that its a pretty expensive route to travel on, even without a top class cabin.
