Dubrovnik Bari Ferry reviews

  • "Dubrovnik to Bari, 18 September 2022"

This started as quite a stressful day as, due to a storm the previous day, the catameran which we were supposed to get from Korcula to Dubrovnik, at 0835, to connect with the 12 noon ferry to Bari, was cancelled, resulting in us facing a 2 day delay in Dubrovnik, waiting for the next ferry, which, unbelievably happened to us the only previous time we have travelled on this route. However, on visiting the Jadrolinija office in Korcula when it opened that morning, we were told that, first of all, the 1215 catameran was running, and that the Bari ferry had been reschedued to depart at 1600, the storm apparently also having caused problems at Bari the previous night. We were first on to the already busy catameran at Korcula, maybe not a good thing as it meant that our cases ended up at the bottom of a massive pile of luggage. Also, because this vessel had passengers from the earlier cancelled one, it left Korcula 45 minutes late, and still had to call at Mljet. On the apptoach to Dubrovnik, I managed to get to the luggage, moved dozens of cases and rucksacks and managed to get our cases out, so the only problem on addival at Dubrovnik at 1530, was to get off, not an easy task going against the flow of passengers heading for their luggage. But we made it, scampered off to the Jadrolinija office to exchange our emails for tickets, and were informed there would be a further delay until 1800. Not a problem to us, we were only grateful we had actually made it. Evenyually boardedsometime before 1700 and got underway at 1825, for what turned out to be a very pleasant and calm crossing. Spent the bulk of it in the lounge with the bar, had a couple of beers and a coffee, and a chat about football with the Rijeka supporting barman. Arrival was at 0105, slightly earlier than expected, got a taxi very quickly to our hotel where we arrived at 0130, after a mad dash through the almost empty streets, and next morning we were able to continue our Intertail journey back on schedule, which hadn't looked likely that morning.

  • "Better than expected"

The room was more spacious and the bathroom better than I had been led to expect. Food in restaurant also quite OK, but cash only and the ATM is one of those ones that takes more for itself than it gives to you...

Dubrovnik Guide

Located on the Adriatic Sea coast, the Croatian city of Dubrovnik is in the Dalmatia region of the country. The city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most visited destinations in the Mediterranean. One of the most popular sites in the city are its walls which stretch for almost 2 km around the city. The walls are between 4 to 6 meters thick on the landward side but are much thinner on the seaward side. The defensive intentions of the wall are characterised by the system of towers and turrets. The city's walls have been a popular filming location for the HBO series Game of Thrones who use the walls as the location for the fictional city of Kings Landing. Also in the city is its Baroque cathedral which was built in the 18th century and contains an impressive Treasury with relics of Saint Blaise.

Dubrovnik's Ferry Terminal is located in the Kantafig area of Gruž bay roughly 3 km from the Old Town. All ferries to and from Dubrovnik arrive and depart from here. Destinations served by the port include Bari, Rijeka, Split, Stari Grad, Korcula and Mijet.

Bari Guide

The Italian city and port of Bari lies on the Adriatic Sea coasty and is the capital of the Italian region of Puglia. The city is not particularly well known as a tourist destination although there are a few sights of interest and is conveniently located for visitors to use it as a base from which to explore the surrounding area. The city's historic centre is located on a headland that protrudes into the Adriatic Sea. Most of the archaeology in the city lies beneath the maze of narrow lanes in the Vecchia Bari quarter of the city which is famous for being confusing to visitors who frequently find themselves lost. Bari's most famous church is located between the sea and the Old Town, and is the 11th century Romanesque Basilica di San Nicola. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas and was built in order to house his remains, which still lie in the crypt. In the main part of the church there are several interesting sights including an elaborate stone canopy over the altar and an 11th century marble bishop's throne, known as the Cattedra di Elia.
