Ile Rousse Toulon Ferry reviews

  • "Very comfortable trip"

Very efficient system. Check-in, lane control and boarding was surprisingly quick and well ahead of sailing time. I love the fact that you are allocated your cabin number at check-in and are told to go straight to the cabin, therefore avoiding long queues at reception. Plenty of seating, several restaurants and bars to choose from, childrens' play area to keep te little ones occupied. I had a basic, inside cabin and it was more than adequate. The bed was really comfortable and the shower excelleht. I had a great night's sleep, refreshed and ready for the days' work ahead. Importantly, all on schedule. The only two things I would suggest could be improved is the quality of the food at the self-service buffet, where you have to line up with your hot foot to pay, which means that by the time you get to your table, it is cold, and tghe quality could be better. The ship was clean, to a degree, but there is room for improvement. On the whole, a very happy customer.

Located in the Haute-Corse region of France, Ile Rousse is a town on the island of Corsica. The town was originally named Isola Rossa, the Red Island, when it was founded in 1758 by Pasquale Paoli. Its name was in reference of the ochre colour of a rocky islet that served as a natural harbour. One interesting fact is that despite Corsica being a French island, Ile Rousse is only one of two town on the island that have French names. The other town have all retained their original Italian names.

The town is a great place to spend a holiday and attracts many visitors as a result. The beach at Plaga de Rindara, to the south of the town, is lovely and definitely worth a visit. There is also a small rocky island to the north of the town that is good to explore. There are a number of beautiful late 18th and early 19th century buildings in the town which visitors can't help admiring whilst taking a leisurely stroll through the town. In Place Paoli, in the centre of the town, visitors will find a bust of Pasquale Paoli, the town's founder. Open to the sea to the south west, the square has a covered market, and providing shade under Plane trees, it is a good place to begin a venture into the old and new towns.

From the town's port, ferries depart to Nice, Toulon and Marseille.

Toulon Guide

The French town of Toulon lies on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea to the east of Marseille in the Var department of Provence. The town is located around a rocky bay and is sheltered by the rocks of 'Faron" which are topped by ancient fortifications. Due to its sheltered position the town's harbour has developed into a large harbour and is home to the French Naval fleets. Visitors to the town will enjoy strolling around the Old Town which is characterised by a number of restored buildings and narrow streets lined with shops and cafes. A popular attraction in the town is The Arsenal of Toulon which dates back to the time of Henry IV and was inaugurated in 1680. It is entered via a 1738 portico and contains many paintings, such as the beautiful picture by Antoine Morel Fatio (19th century) called 'The port of Toulon in 1854', there also paintings by Emil Mathon, with the 'Retour de l'Admiral de Courbet aux cendres salins d’ Hières'; Vincent Cordouan and the 'Combat de Vaisseau, the Romulus, 13 fevrier 1814', and by J. Vernet is 'Les Vues des Ports de France'.
